Dr. Gita Gopinath, the First Deputy Managing Director (FDMD) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka from 15 to 16 June 2025, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
She will be the first FDMD of the IMF to visit Sri Lanka since 2005.
During her visit, Dr. Gopinath will be the guest of honour at the conference titled “Sri Lanka’s Road to Recovery: Debt and Governance”, which will be held on 16 June 2025. The event is being jointly organized by the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, and the IMF.
The conference comes at the mid-point of Sri Lanka’s IMF-supported reform programme, and will focus on the country’s efforts in restoring macroeconomic stability, carrying out debt restructuring, and implementing governance reforms. It will also address the challenges ahead, the CBSL stated.
In addition to the conference, Dr. Gopinath is expected to hold bilateral discussions with Sri Lankan authorities and other key stakeholders to discuss the IMF’s continued engagement with Sri Lanka.
