In a joint operation, officers from the Thirukkovil camp of the Police Special Task Force and the Ampara district office of the Consumer Affairs Authority have successfully uncovered a disturbing operation involving the sale of substandard coriander mixed with sulfur powder, a highly toxic chemical, in Kalmunai.

During the operation, a warehouse located in Kalmunai was targeted. It was here that substandard coriander was found to have been deliberately mixed with sulfur powder, an extremely hazardous substance. The concoction was then repackaged and prepared for sale.

As a result of the raid, a 44-year-old resident of Kalmunaikudi 08 was apprehended. The authorities seized a staggering 2,125 kg of coriander mixed with sulfur powder, in addition to 82,750 kg of substandard coriander and 225 kg of sulfur powder from the premises situated in Kalmuna Kudi 03 within the Kalmuna Police Domain.

The arrested individual, along with the stockpile of contaminated coriander, has been handed over to the Ampara District Office of the Consumer Affairs Authority for further investigation.
