Police equipped to identify pornographic players on Social media – Operations begin today

Police say its Children’s and Women’s Bureau is now equipped with software that provides all the information about computers or mobile phones that were utilized to upload pornography pictures or videos to social media platforms within few seconds. Police spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana says that they will in an alert from today to nab such persons and devices within a very short time.
When DIG Ajith Rohana was appointed as the Chief of Police in charge of the Children and Women’s Bureau, he had visited the Children and Women’s Bureau in Armor Street recently and had come to know about the software. However, no legal action has been taken so far as the officials of the Bureau had not received proper instructions in this regard. Therefore, Mr Ajith Rohana states that from today, with the assistance of the CID, operations will be launched to bring to justice those who have released obscene photographs of children and women on Facebook and other social media platforms.
He said that this software would identify information such as the location IP address of the photo or video released on social media from a computer or a mobile phone, from which area, as well as the details of the devices that were connected to the internet. Accordingly, it will be possible to easily identify the person who posted the photos and videos and in the future, when such videos and photos are posted on Facebook, a program will be launched to enforce the law against them, said Mr Rohana. According to the Children and Women’s Bureau, a separate team has been appointed to monitor the system and it will be activated as an operations unit.
