A human fetus, believed to be approximately eight months old, was found in a drain adjacent to the pregnant ward unit of Kandy National Hospital, today (03). A woman cleaning the area noticed the distressing sight and immediately alerted the hospital authorities.
Dr. Iresha Fernando, Director of Kandy National Hospital, revealed that it remains unclear whether the fetus was intentionally discarded by a mother from the pregnant ward or if it was brought to the location by an animal. The fetus has been transferred to the hospital mortuary for forensic examination, and further conclusions cannot be drawn until the assessment is conducted.
The Kandy Police have launched an investigation into this perplexing incident, aiming to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
