Renowned actor Hugh Jackman and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, are reportedly set to separate after 27 years of marriage, as per reports from US media outlets.
According to the celebrity magazine People, the Australian couple released a statement expressing their gratitude for having shared almost three decades together. In the same statement, they revealed that their journey was now evolving, leading them to make the difficult decision to separate and focus on their individual growth.
Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness’s love story began on the set of the TV show “Correlli” in 1995. At the time, Furness was an established actress, while Jackman was a recent drama school graduate.
They sealed their love with marriage in April 1996 and later expanded their family by adopting two children, who are now 23 and 18 years old.
In their statement published by People, the couple emphasized that their family has always been and will continue to be their top priority. They expressed their commitment to approaching this new chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. Jackman and Furness also requested understanding and privacy as their family navigates this transition.
The statement concludes by stating that this is the sole statement that either of them will make regarding their separation.
Hugh Jackman, widely recognized for his portrayal of Wolverine in the X-Men franchise and his roles in acclaimed films like “The Greatest Showman” and “Les Misérables,” has frequently shared moments from his relationship with Furness on social media.
The actor’s public displays of affection for his wife included heartfelt messages on special occasions such as their 27th wedding anniversary in April, where he celebrated their love and the beautiful family they’ve built together. Jackman also noted that their marriage felt as “natural as breathing” during their silver wedding anniversary in 2021.
Jackman and Furness were last seen together in July at the Wimbledon tennis championships in London, where they were spotted enjoying a match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.
In April, Hugh Jackman informed his fans through social media that he had received an all-clear following tests for skin cancer. This marked his latest health update after having his first skin cancer removed in 2013 and subsequently undergoing at least six procedures to address the issue.
