The re-instated SSP of Sri Lanka Police, Shani Abeysekera, will assist in concluding some stalled high-profile investigations, and all eyes are on him, says the secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, retired Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Ravi Seneviratne.

In an interview with the *Daily Mirror* published on October 14, Seneviratne expressed confidence that SSP Abeysekera would assist in the investigation process and ensure legal action is taken against those directly or indirectly involved.

The investigations that have resumed include several major cases, such as the Easter Sunday attacks, the murder of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge, the suspicious death of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen, and attacks on other prominent figures, including Keith Noyahr and Upali Tennakoon. Other notable cases include the Navy abductions, the disappearance of Prageeth Eknaligoda, the Central Bank bond scam, and the sugar scam.

The secretary Seneviratne recalled that during SSP Abeysekera’s previous tenure at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), he left no stone unturned in gathering credible information on several well-known cases, including the murders of Mohamed Shiyam, Royal Park, and Baratha Lakshman Premachandra, all of which resulted in convictions.

Now, with SSP Abeysekera back in his role, public attention is focused on how he will proceed with these significant investigations and hold those involved accountable.

Seneviratne, who served as the Senior DIG of the CID before retiring, emphasized that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will not interfere in the investigations. He reassured the public that there would be no political interference in police matters or administrative decisions.
