Ravi Seneviratne, the newly appointed Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, has inquired about several high-profile investigations that were previously neglected. According to police sources, he reviewed the progress of these cases during a meeting yesterday at Police Headquarters with senior officials, including Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasooriya.
Seneviratne, a retired Senior Superintendent of Police, raised concerns about the status of investigations like the death of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen, the Central Bank bond scam, and other major cases involving crime and fraud.
Police spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa told the media that the meeting addressed a wide range of issues. Investigations that had been temporarily halted or unnecessarily delayed were discussed. Secretary Seneviratne emphasized the need to determine the reasons behind the delays and asked if any political or other external influences had obstructed the investigations.
The meeting also focused on which investigations needed to be restarted and identified cases affected by outside factors. Police confirmed that a report will be prepared to assess the progress of these investigations, and senior officers assured that the investigations would proceed without further delay.
