The death toll in Jaffna due to extreme heat has risen to seven, with another death reported yesterday (11). The latest death occurred in Alvai, with a 68-year-old male passing away. The deceased was taken to Point Pedro Hospital after a sudden collapse. A postmortem examination determined that the cause of death was a heat stroke and severe dehydration resulting from exposure to intense sunlight.
