Creating curiosity among doctors, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has taken steps to deduct Rs. 8,000 from the monthly salaries of GMOA doctors. Although the average annual membership fee is Rs. 4,000, this time a sum of Rs. 8,000 has been deducted from the doctor’s salary. A Doctor told Lankasara that they were told by GMOA officials about the deduction that additional 4000 has been collected as legal charges for the cour proceeding related to the GMOA.

It is said that the membership of the Medical Officers’ Association is over 20,000 and accordingly, nearly Rs. 80 million has been directly collected for the court proceedings, according to medical sources.

He told Lankasara that the Government Medical Officers ‘Association (GMOA) was unnecessarily embroiled in lawsuits with some doctors and that the lawyers’ support for these cases was obtained from leading law firms, which cost them a lot of money annually.

However, the Moratuwa District Court has issued an interim injunction restraining the present board of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) from functioning and the collection of money is also illegal, a doctor told Lankasara.
