The gazette notification to reduce the price and release the ‘fraudulent cylinder’ marketed by Litro Gas Company has not been issued yet and an invisible hand is working to delay it, Lankasara learns.
The Cabinet approved the proposal brought by Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena last Monday (19) in order to reduce the price of the “Premium” gas cylinder which was marketed without proper approval of the Consumer Affairs Authority. It has been about a week since the Cabinet decision to grant the permission.
The Cabinet decided to sell a newly introduced 18-litre domestic gas cylinder for Rs. 1150.
The general tradition is that after a Cabinet decision is taken, the Cabinet Office informs the relevant agencies of this decision. The Consumer Affairs Authority is responsible for making decisions regarding gas prices.
However, it is reported that the decision has not been officially received by the Consumer Affairs Authority so far. Accordingly, if the new decision is implemented, the consumer will be able to purchase an 18-litre gas cylinder at a concessionary price of Rs. 245 compared to the previous price.
