Ousmand Gunasekara, alias “Gampaha Osmond,” has been arrested by the Colombo District Crime Division for allegedly aiding and abetting the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa and supplying firearms used in the crime.
The suspect, a 69-year-old resident of Gampaha, was arrested on the night of May 13 in the Sri Bodhi Road area of Gampaha.
Ganemulla Sanjeewa was shot dead on February 19, 2025, inside the Colombo No. 05 Magistrate’s Court while being escorted from prison. The shooting was carried out by a gunman posing as a lawyer.
Police said the arrest was made based on information obtained from suspects currently being held on remand in connection with the case.
Investigations have revealed that the murder plot was allegedly orchestrated in collaboration with organised criminals operating from overseas. Police further stated that the suspect had aided the crime by supplying the firearms required to carry out the murder.
At the time of the arrest, officers recovered a foreign-manufactured repeater-type firearm, 10 rounds of live ammunition, and two ammunition magazines from the suspect’s possession.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Colombo District Crime Division.
