The Minister said that a card will be introduced to issue fuel to the ration system and it is expected to be issued within next two , three weeks.
However, he pointed out that the amount of fuel supplied to each sector may vary and that no specific decision has been taken regarding the amount of fuel to be supplied and how it will be implemented in the future.

He said that many people were requesting fuel as an essential service and that the nearest request came from the Colombo National Hospital.

The Minister said that it was not possible to categorize and give priority to essential services as every profession is an essential service and said that the coupon system was being implemented as an experiment to solve the existing problem.
