Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera says that the government intends to provide some relief to the public through a fuel price revision in April.
Addressing a rally held in Minuwangoda, the minister said this could be done because the rupee has appreciated against the US dollar.
The minister has further said that the candidates in the fray for the local government polls have submitted a request to increase the fuel quota of 5 litres per week to 5 liters per day for motorcycles.
The Minister, however, said that it will take six months to arrange the necessary funds to import the fuel required for 80,000 candidates, and the Election Commission has also been informed of this.
The minister further said that these institutions in question needed to be restructured to reduce fuel and electricity tariffs.
