Former US President Donald Trump expressed his anticipation of being arrested in connection with the federal investigation into the Capitol riot that occurred on January 6, 2021.
In a recent post on his social media platform, Trump revealed that he had been informed by special counsel Jack Smith on Sunday night that he is now a target of the ongoing inquiry.
According to Trump’s post, he was instructed to appear before a grand jury, a development he believes usually leads to an arrest and subsequent indictment.
As of now, the special counsel has not responded to media inquiries seeking confirmation or further details regarding Trump’s claims.
If this scenario were to unfold, it would mark the third indictment for the former president, as he already faces charges brought forth by Smith’s team in June, accusing him of mishandling classified documents.
