Mr. Joseph Michael Perera, who was a former speaker as well as a cabinet minister, passed away today (28). Mr. Perera, who served as the 17th Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, was 82 years old at his demise.
Mr. Joseph Michael Perera, who worked as an active member of the United National Party, entered active politics from the Ja Ala Municipal Council and he was elected as the Ja Ala MP in the 1978 general election. He held many positions as Deputy Minister and Minister and retired from politics in the last part of his life.
