Two individuals, former Western Provincial Councilor Salochana Gamage and businessman Dushantha Dinesh Ratnayake were arrested yesterday evening by officials from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption while soliciting a bribe of 10 million rupees.
Police investigations have revealed that Salochana Gamage is the brother of Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage. Both suspects are reportedly involved in land-related businesses.
The investigation uncovered that the two individuals assisted a party claiming ownership of land in Colombo 07 in transferring it to the Urban Development Authority. The land is located on Torrington Mawatha in the Kurunduwatta Police Division.
Out of the 100 million rupees the Road Development Authority paid to the party claiming ownership, these two suspects allegedly attempted to take a nearly 10 million rupees bribe. Officers from the Bribery Commission apprehended them in a pub in Pitakotte.
The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Narahenpita Police Station and held there until their court appearance. Police have confirmed that the suspects will be produced before the court today.
