It is reported that the Police Headquarters has taken steps to transfer the Director of the Investigation Division of the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption, Senior Superintendent of Police Padmini Weerasuriya to Jaffna with immediate effect.

However, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has not released her from office and sources from the Bribery Commission say that a suitable investigating officer should be obtained from the police and properly interviewed in order to fill the vacancy.

Following the transfer of Weerasuriya, a senior Superintendent of Police from the Police Headquarters has been appointed to the Bribery Commission, but the Bribery and Corruption Commission has stated that the recruitment should be done after a formal interview.

The Bribery Commission is working to delay the release of Weerasuriya until such a recruitment.
