A fire broke out in the Katunayake Free Trade Zone this morning, causing unrest in the area. The fire broke out at a garbage recycling center run by Holcim in the Free Trade Zone.
It was reported that the effluent from factories in the trade zone is being managed at this location and the remainder is being transported to Puttalam.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire. The fire was contained by the Katunayake Airport and FTZ Fire Brigades.
