A complaint has been filed against popular astrologer Indika Thotawatta for insulting several Buddhist Bhikkus through his youtube channel. The complaint has been filed by Attorney Yalith Wijesundara yesterday (02).
In his complaint, Wijesundara has noted that Thotawatta has uploaded several videos and released several DVDs in which he is seen speaking about a number of Buddhist monks in a derogatory manner.
Wijesundara said Under the Penal Code, it is an offence to utter words with the sole intention of offending a person’s religious feelings (Article 291A) while under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act No. 57 of 2007, it is also an offence to incite racial, ethnic, or religious hatred that promotes discrimination, hostility, or violence.
Wijesundara has requested the CID to take immediate action against Thotawatta.
