Final rites of Veteran Actor Jayalal Rohana on Feb 14

The final rites of Veteran actor and University educator Jayalal Rohana will take place on Sunday (14) at the Borella General Cemetry.

His body will lie at his residence in 50/3, Sri Seelananda Mawatha, Kossinna, Ganemulla till 3.00 pm tomorrow. The public will be able to pay respects to the late actor from 6.00 pm tomorrow till 3.30 pm the following day at the Sinhala cultural centre (Sudarshi) Bauddhaloka Mawatha. The final rites will take place at 4.30 pm at the Borella General Cemetry.

Jayalal Rohana was 56 years old at the time of his death. Born on November 1, 1964, Jayalal Rohana entered the field of art in 1976.

Jayalal Rohana excelled as an actor, playwright, radio scriptwriter, teacher and makeup artist. Jayalal Rohana, known for his comedic talents on stage, contributed to many stage dramas such as Subha & Yasa, Varna, Senehabara Dolly, Socrates, Kelani Palama, Hankithi 13 and Hon. Katanayake.

His role as Muthumina in the teledrama Isuru Yogaya, which became very popular among Sri Lankan audiences, has left many unforgettable memories even today.

He also acted in teledramas such as ‘Ekata Gothuma’, ‘Mirigu Thera’ and ‘Nattukkarayo’. He also acted in several films such as ‘Ayoma’ and ‘Tikiri Suwada’.

He also served as a University External Lecturer in Drama and Performing Arts and made a significant contribution to the development of the Sri Lankan field of performing arts.

Jayalal Rohana is a graduate of the University of Peradeniya, an alumnus of the Ananda Shasthralaya, Kotte.
