The final Randoli Perahera of the historic Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, the most viewed cultural pageant in Sri Lanka, is scheduled to parade the streets tonight (08).
The first Kumbal Perahera of the Esala Perahera festival commenced on the 30th of last month. After nine days of processions, the final Randoli Perahera will take place today, the 10th day of the festival, said Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela. The procession will set off at the auspicious time of 6:57 p.m.
Tomorrow (09) morning, the traditional Water Cutting Ceremony will be held at Getambe. In the afternoon, the Day Perahera will leave the Sri Danthadhathu Mandir from the Gedige Rajamaha Viharaya in Asgiriya at 2:16 p.m., accompanied by the Satara Maha Devala Perahera.
Meanwhile, General Manager of Railways Dhammika Jayasundara announced that several special trains have been deployed today for devotees attending the Kandy Esala Festival.
The Sri Lanka Police has also implemented a special security and traffic plan for the final Randoli Perahera. This includes roadblocks, security duties, vehicle and personal checks, tourist guidance, and parking management.
