A bus accident claimed the lives of two individuals, with three others currently in serious condition in Ambanpola town today (10) at around 02:45 am according to hospital sources.
The passengers onboard the ill-fated bus were residents of Tambuttegama Talawa Mahaveli village. They had been returning from a pilgrimage to Kuragala when the accident occurred.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus collided with a parked container in Ambanpola, leading the police to suspect that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
Injured students have been transferred to Ambanpola, Galgamuwa, and Kurunegala hospitals for medical treatment.
Eyewitnesses at the scene described the front of the bus as severely damaged, with one fatality reported immediately following the accident.
