Families of persons who went missing after handing themselves over to the military in the North at the end of the war held a protest in Vavuniya and Kilinochchi yesterday (30). The families are demanding that a special investigation is carried out to look into the enforced disappearances of their loved ones.
The protestors were also opposing comments made by government authorities which claimed that all who handed themselves over were rehabilitated and released to the society while others are believed to be dead. The families stressed that their loved ones had not died during the war and has gone missing after being handed over to the Sri Lankan Military.
They also noted that despite protesting for nearly three years the government has not provided them with any answers. They demanded that the current government launches a special investigation to reveal what happened to those who went missing.
