An Excise officer arrested for distorting the Rohana Baddage’s Avurudu song

An excise officer attached to the Department of Excise has been arrested by the Police for distributing the manipulated Avurudu song of veteran musician Rohana Baddage, on social media.
According to the Police he was arrested in Wariyapola, a North Western of Sri Lanka.
The Original Song ‘Surya Mangaliya was composed for the ‘Surya Mangaliya’ program of the independent television service in 2014. The lyrics by Geet Tharanga and the melody by Sahan Ranwala Rohana Baddage and Ranwala Balakaya contributed to the song.

According to a complaint received by the Inspector General regarding the distortion of this traditional New Year song, the Computer Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department had started an investigation.

Accordingly, the North West Provincial Unit of the Computer Crime Investigation Division proceeded to arrest a 31-year-old excise officer residing in Talatuoya area.

The suspect has been handed over to the Wariyapola Police Station and will be produced before the Kuliapitiya Magistrate’s Court today.
