The Excise Department has increased all liquor licence fees by 100%. Accordingly, relevant industry associations have warned that liquor prices may increase in the future as a result of this decision.
The Excise Department has taken this step in line with a proposal submitted to Parliament by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on the 5th. Under the new measures, annual excise duty fees, one-time entry fees, and security deposit amounts will all be increased.
According to the amendments, the revised payments will come into effect from January next year.
