Elections Commission queries the Finance Ministry about its ability to allocate the funds for the LG elections

 

The Election Commission has dispatched a communication to the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Mr Mahinda Siriwardena, inquiring whether or not he could allocate the necessary funds for the local government elections planned to be held on the 9th of March.

It is estimated that 10 billion rupees will be incurred for this election and the Election Commission has requested the finance ministry to inform with facts whether it would be possible to allocate that sum of money.

Meanwhile, when the Finance Committee of the Parliament met yesterday (23), attention has been drawn to a statement made by the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance in the court that there is no money to hold the election.

Dr Harsha de Silva said on his Twitter account that the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance stated that before the Committee.

Chairman of the Finance Committee, Dr Harsha De Silva, says that this is the usual phenomenon these days, which arises in almost all the day-to-day activities of the country.

 The Election Commission has called all the political parties and independent groups that are contesting in the local government elections today, and this is the first time that the Election Commission is meeting the political parties after the announcement of the election date.
