Dr. Tamara Kalubowila has been appointed as the new Chairman of Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital following the resignation of its former Chairman, Dr. Jayanga Tillekeratne.
Dr. Tillekeratne, a Consultant Gynaecologist attached to Castle Street Women’s Hospital, tendered his resignation after being transferred to Polonnaruwa Hospital by the Ministry of Health. He cited difficulties in continuing to function as Chairperson of Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital due to the transfer.
The new appointment was made by the Ministry of Health and Mass Media. Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, officially presented the letter of appointment to Dr. Kalubowila on Tuesday (29) at the Ministry premises.
An old boy of Royal College, Colombo, Dr. Kalubowila graduated with an MBBS degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, in 1986. He began his medical career at Panadura Hospital and has held several key roles, including Medical Officer of Health, Regional Director of Health Services, Maternal and Child Health Medical Officer, Epidemiologist, and Medical Officer-in-Charge.
He later transitioned into medical administration, serving as the Medical Superintendent of Horana Hospital. In 2002, he obtained a postgraduate qualification in medical administration from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo.
Over the years, Dr. Kalubowila has served as Director of the Panadura, Horana, and Kalutara hospitals, as well as the Kalutara Health Sciences Institute. He also served as the Regional Director of Health Services (RDHS) for the Kalutara District.
Dr. Kalubowila officially assumed duties as Chairperson of Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital on Wednesday morning (30).
