He further said that due to the adverse weather conditions prevailing in the last few days and warnings not to engage in fishing activities in the area. The fishing community have refrained from fishing in these waters.
However, a team of experts will begin their study tomorrow to conduct a proper study on the impact of the fire on the marine environment, the Director-General added.
The Director-General said that fishing in the area would not be allowed until a definitive study is done on the impact on the coast, adding that a decision could be made based on the information provided by the experts involved in the study.
Although the study was scheduled to commence today, it had to be postponed due to severe weather conditions, Director-General Dr Palitha Kithsiri said.
