A doctor from Point Pedro Hospital suffered critical injuries yesterday (05) after being struck by a van in front of the Point Pedro bus station in Panay.
The doctor’s condition remains very serious, as reported by sources, indicating that due to the severity of the injuries, the individual was transferred to Jaffna Education Hospital for specialized care, including treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.
Identified as Dr. S. Sudarshan Namathi, the doctor was on his way home, traveling by bicycle when the accident occurred. Eyewitnesses recounted that as he advanced ahead, a van suddenly arrived, resulting in a collision. The impact caused Dr. Namathi to sustain significant injuries.
The driver of the van allegedly lost control, leading to the unfortunate incident. After the collision, the driver attempted to flee but was apprehended by authorities.
Peduruthuduwa Police conducted an inspection of the scene and took the necessary measures for investigation and legal proceedings.
