The term of office of the current Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Pradeep Nilanga Dela, will conclude at midnight today (07).
According to sources at the Sri Dalada Maligawa, it has been decided to reappoint Pradeep Nilanga Dela to the position on the recommendation of the two Mahanayake Theros of the Malwathu and Asgiri Ubhaya Maha Viharayas.
Traditionally, once a Diyawadana Nilame’s term ends, the same official is appointed as the acting Diyawadana Nilame until a permanent decision is made. However, in 2005, Rohan Paranagama, then Basnayake Nilame of the Paththini Devalaya, was appointed to act in place of Neranjan Wijayaratne, who was serving as Diyawadana Nilame at the time.
