Body specimens of the business leader Dinesh Shafter had been obtained by the panel of forensic medical experts for further examination, the head of the Karpitiya Teaching Hospital Forensic Department, Dr Rohan Ruwanpura, said.

The forensic expert said that the preliminary post-mortem examination of Dinesh Shafter was completed yesterday (26), and the body parts were taken for further investigation.

He also pointed out that it may take at least another two weeks for the examination of the parts taken from the body. The expert forensic medical officer also said that the body will be retained for another two weeks to get the body parts as and when required.

Thereafter, the body will be handed over to the relatives.

He further stated that it may take a month or two to submit the final post-mortem report to the court.

The body of Dinesh Shashter, who mysteriously died, was brought to the morgue of Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for a second post-mortem examination last Friday afternoon after it was exhumed under judicial supervision.

On the same night, the five-member expert committee appointed for the post-mortem examination decided to subject the body to a CT scan.

Following the CT scan the second post-mortem examination was conducted by a five-member medical panel chaired by Professor Asela Mendis of the University of Colombo. The other members of this medical panel are Ruhunu University Professor and Forensic Expert UCP Perera, Peradeniya University Professor DHS Fernando, Kandy Chief Forensic Medical Officer S. Shiva Subramaniam, and Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Chief Forensic Medical Officer. Rohan Ruwanpura.
