Sri Lanka police have obtained an overseas travel ban against pastor  Jerome Fernando.  Police Spokesman  SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that the travel ban was imposed based on an order the Criminal Investigations Department obtained from the court.

The Criminal Investigation Department has launched an investigation regarding a statement made by Jerome Fernando following the instructions of President Ranil Wickramasinghe.

However, it is reported that the pastor has left the country already but police sources said that it was not confirmed yet and the investigations are being carried out based on the information.

Meanwhile, The Catholic Church strongly condemned the statements made by Jerome Fernando that disrupt religious harmony.

In a media conference held today Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando, the Spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Colombo told they observed that the recent comments made by Jerome Fernando, during one of his sermons, likely pose a threat to religious coexistence in the country.

“We would like to stress that Jerome Fernando is NOT a catholic priest and is not linked to the Catholic Church in any manner,” Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando further said.
