Sri Lankan cricketer Dhanushka Gunathilaka recently took to Facebook to share his encounter with Tourism Minister Harin Fernando and former cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya during their tourism promotion program in Australia.
The 32-year-old cricketer, who is currently out on bail under strict conditions, faced legal issues during the Twenty20 World Cup held in Sydney, Australia, in 2022. He was arrested and prosecuted by Australian security forces for allegedly breaching the team’s disciplinary rules and leaving the hotel where he was staying. To secure his release on bail, Gunathilaka paid a substantial sum of two hundred thousand dollars. While he was acquitted of three charges in a four-count rape case, he still faces trial on one count.
Gunathilaka’s arrest took place on November 6, 2022, at the hotel where the Sri Lankan cricket team was accommodated. The arrest followed a complaint lodged by a 29-year-old woman residing in Rose Bay, East Sydney.
