The Dematagoda Aramaya place area where the deadly Delta (B.1.617.2) variant is said to have been found by the community is a very densely populated area and meeting the Indian community in this area inhabited by shanty dwellers creates an opportunity that could lead to a major crisis, the health department said.
According to police sources, the area has been completely sealed off.

Five samples of the deadly Delta Covid strain have been identified for the first time in Sri Lankan society during biological sample tests conducted on a group of Covid infected at the Aramaya Place in Dematagoda, Colombo.
Dr. Jeewandara stresses people should be inoculated with 2 doses of the vaccines to get immunity against this variant.
