Death Penalty Imposed for Brutally Murdering the Mistress

Kalutara High Court Judge Pradeep M. has delivered a verdict, imposing the death penalty on a defendant accused of brutally murdering his mistress. The defendant allegedly used a broom and his hands to inflict fatal injuries on the victim. The judgment was pronounced today (11).

The condemned individual, Warnasuriya Neville Fernando, who was also known as Rambo and resided in Payagala, Halkandawila, Sinhagama, received the death sentence.

The court established that the charges were related to the death of Ms. L. Tanuja Bandara, a resident of Payagala, Halkandawila, Sinhagama.

The victim was allegedly subjected to severe beatings with the defendant using both his hands and a broom. The incident is reported to have occurred around February 15, 2015.

The suspect was apprehended by Payagala Police on suspicion of causing the victim’s death, as it was believed they were cohabiting.

The case, identified as HC 580/2019, was prosecuted with Sergeant Chaminda Alahakon (8677) representing the police.
