Chancellor of Colombo Unversity Ven Muruthettuwe Ananda Thera declines all roumours that he was rejected by students to receive graduation at the Convocation held yesterday.
The Chancellor Thera said to Lankasara except few student who received their graduation from the vice chancellor rest of the students obtained the graduation from him.
He further said that many social media and main stream media published damn lies about his refusal by the students.
“I was the one who told the Vice Chancellor to give the certificates first. She gave the certificates with my permission.
I am new to this post. So I want to get a little understanding of this festival. That’s why I asked her to give the certificates first
Following that I awarded the degree certificates to all the remaining students. Thirty medical students obtained certificates from me.
Commenting on the news that some students participated to the event with black ribbons in protest of Ven Muruththettuwe Thera’s appointment Thera said that there were two young men wearing black ribbons outside the ballroom. Then the two youths took off their black ribbons and have participated in the ceremony.
It is the JVP cadres who sabotage good work every day. I think they may have been behind this work.
Also I was called by a doctor, The Government Medical Officers’ Association had stated that medical students would not receive a degree from me. But I know nothing about it. However, all the medical students got their degree certificates from me.
