The Department of Meteorology in Sri Lanka has issued a weather alert at 5.30 AM today (27) as a deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal moves closer to the island. As of 11:30 p.m. on November 26, the system was located 190 km southeast of Trincomalee and is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm today, November 27, while moving north-northwestward.

Heavy Rainfall:
Hefty showers, exceeding 150 mm, are expected in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, North-Western, and Central provinces, as well as in Trincomalee, Batticaloa, and Kegalle districts. Elsewhere on the island, rainfall may reach up to 75 mm.
Strong Winds:
Gusty winds of 40-50 km/h are likely in many parts of the country, including the Northern, North-Central, Central, Western, North-Western, Southern, and Eastern provinces.
Cloudy Skies:
Most areas will experience overcast conditions, with frequent showers or thundershowers.
