Cyclone ‘Nivar’ wrecks havoc in the North

The Disaster Management Center says that 84 houses in Jaffna have been partially damaged due to the adverse weather conditions and winds that affected the Northern Province due to the cyclone Nivar. According to the DMC the residents of 11 other houses are now unable to live in their houses due to the damages.

Jaffna District Assistant Director of Disaster Management S. Suriyaraj said that sea water was flowing into the land due to winds of 80 to 100 miles per hour blowing through and rain.

The Assistant Director of Disaster Management said that relief work has been started for the residents of 14 Divisional Secretariat Divisions in Jaffna.
