Police curfew has been imposed in Colombo South, Central and North police divisions with immediate effect, police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said. Accordingly, the police curfew will be in effect in all areas within the entire Colombo city limits from Colombo 01 to 15 until further notice.
The curfew was imposed after a large crowd of supporters of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa gathered in front of Temple Trees this morning, stormed the Galle Face protest site, attacked protesters and damaged property at the venue. The area is still hot and 19 people injured in the attack have been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.
