Covid patients in-home care should not take any drug arbitrarily

Patients staying at home with covid are being treated with steroids such as Dexamethasone on the advice of various individuals and that taking such drugs without proper medical advice can create unwanted health problems Dr. Manilka Sumanaratne, Vice President of the Sri Lanka Medical Association, said yesterday .

The Consultant Physician said that this situation was revealed during the 247 hotline medical advice hotline service launched by the Sri Lanka Medical Association. The Medical Association of Sri Lanka (SLMA) is currently operating a call service to provide medical advice to Covid patients who are being treated at home with mild symptoms. From the day we started, we stopped making various inquiries and when our doctors found out about it, they noticed that these patients were being given a steroid class called Dexamethasone. But the arbitrary use of this drug can because dangerous effects on our health. This drug poses an unnecessary risk, especially to patients with high blood sugar. You have recently seen that some patients have been infected with black mold.

Dexamethasone can cause blindness to develop. Therefore, a patient with Covid or a patient with such symptoms should not take any medicine other than vitamin supplements. ”
He further said that the hotline service operated by the Sri Lanka Medical Association is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and the patient and his family can be informed about the steps to be taken and the action to be taken if they express their health problems at any such time.
