The Association of Specialist Physicians has sent a letter to the President urging him to further enforce the current restrictions on circulation, as the number of patients and the amount of oxygen they need have been found to be increasing day by day, making the hospital system unbearable.
According to the latest statistics, the Association points out that there has been a 12% increase in Covid patients and a 28% increase in Covid deaths over the past week in Sri Lanka.
Medical specialists foresee if this trend continues to grow it will further limit the ability of the health sector to treat patients. Eventually, it will not be possible to prevent the collapsing the health sector, The association warns.
