Police obtained a court order preventing several Buddhist monks from demonstrating near the Pettah Bodhi.
Accordingly, the court restrained monks, and a prohibition was issued.
Police cited Ven. Pahiangala Ananda Sagara Thero, the convener of the ‘Save Lanka’ national movement, Ven. Ulapane Sumangala Thero, the president of the teachers’ union organization, Ven. Kalubowila Paduma of the Bhoomi Matha Manusath Foundation” and others who planned the protest movement in Pettah as defendants.
The police informed the organisers that violating this order is an offence under the penal code.
Today (07), a group of monks and priests of all religious denominations were planning to demonstrate inside a temporary structure built on the road in front of the Olcott Mawatha – Sri Bodhirukkarama Temple in the Pettah.
