Court of Appeal Issues Interim Injunction Against Ceylon Petroleum Corporation’s Usage Fee Decision

The Court of Appeal has granted an interim injunction against the decision made by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to impose a 35 percent monthly usage fee on distributors’ rebate amounts.

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation had recently announced its intention to deduct 35 percent of the rebate amount as a monthly usage fee from the deposits made by fuel distributors.

In response to this decision, fuel separators who opposed the measure filed a petition in the Court of Appeal seeking relief.

Today, during the hearing of the petition presided over by Court of Appeal Judge T.N. Samarakona, the court ordered the suspension of the collection of the 35 percent monthly usage fee until the completion of the petition’s hearing.

The petition was filed by the Petroleum Separators Association against the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
