Sri Lanka has formed a special committee, led by the Attorney General, to address the compensation case filed in Singapore over the X-Press Pearl disaster.
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the committee’s appointment on Monday (5).
The team will travel to Singapore to hold talks with the shipping and insurance companies, aiming to negotiate a settlement. It comprises officials from the Attorney General’s Department, Urban Development and Housing Secretary, Chairman of the Marine Environment Protection Authority, Additional Secretary to the President, and Legal Advisers from Australia.
Sri Lanka’s proactive move aims to seek fair compensation for the damage caused by the X-Press Pearl disaster and protect its marine ecosystem.
