The CID summoned before the Parliament privileges committee over Champika’s claim

 

It has been decided to call Criminal Investigation Department of the Police before the privileges committee of the Sri Lanka Parliament to question over a incident of listening telephone calls of MP Champika Ranawaka.

Accordingly, it is reported that the Parliament has decided to summon the officials of the relevant Criminal Investigation Department and telephone network providers before the Privileges Committee on the 18th.
Parliamentarian Ranawaka has requested from the parliament to conduct an inquiry with regard to access of his phone data and calls related to an alleged misuse of funds in the Ministry of Urban Development, Coastal Conservation, Waste Disposal and Sanitation without any legal permission by the CID.

Parliament took this decision on 24.09.2021 in relation to a letter sent by Mr. Patali Champika Ranawaka to the Speaker that the CID had violated his parliamentary privileges by hearing to his telephone conversations without proper permission.
