Police have noted a hidden hand of political interference that forces the CID to drop the case against SDIG Deshabandu Tennekoon. The CID was planning to file a report before the Magistrate’s Court under section 216 of the Criminal Procedure Code against Deshabandu Tennekoon.

Under the circumstances, the CID finds it rather difficult to accomplish its duties.

SDIG Kamal Silva, appointed to monitor and observe developments and findings into the May 9 incidents, has written to the CID that the Attorney General has directed him to take necessary steps under the Criminal Procedure Code.

Accordingly, the CID will submit a report to the Magistrate on the involvement of DIG Tennekoon concerning the May 9 incidents.
