The sale of 400,000 eggs per day for 55 rupees has already started at selected places in Colombo and Gampaha.
All Ceylon Poultry Association President Ajith Gunasekara said that eggs will be sold at the maximum retail price of 55 rupees after 12.00 noon today (28) at selected 16b locations in Colombo and Gampaha.
16 lorries carrying 4 lakh eggs have arrived in Colombo from Kuliapitiya today. Currently, this project has been launched to control the market price by preventing eggs from being sold at a price of up to 65 rupees.
One person can get up to 25-30 eggs from these vans and 50 eggs are issued for restaurants.
Eggs will not be released for wholesalers.
The price of eggs in the market started to rise after the Court of Appeal ordered the suspension of the gazette notification which had been fixed at a price of fifty rupees, fixing a control price of a white egg at 44 rupees and a red egg at 46 rupees until February 06.
In this situation, after a discussion between the Minister of Agriculture and Poultry Production Associations, these associations agreed to sell an egg at a maximum retail price of 55 rupees.
