Proofs are now circulating widely on social media that three former presidents knew how the son of a certain leader deposited $1000 million in a Dubai bank. This revelation was made by former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, with Ranil Wickremesinghe and Maithripala Sirisena as witnesses.

Speaking at the 45th National Conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka on the 16th, Kumaratunga recalled how, in 2015 during the Yahapalana government, they discovered that a son of a leader had hidden $1 billion in a Dubai account. Despite their discovery, they couldn’t bring the money back due to legal limitations.

While Kumaratunga was sharing this story, Ranil Wickremesinghe tried to stop her from making the disclosure, but she insisted on telling the truth, despite Wickremesinghe and the moderator’s efforts to silence her.

Kumaratunga revealed that she had seen the bank statements herself. However, there was no strong law to reclaim the assets. While Wickremesinghe and Sirisena weren’t directly blamed for this failure, Wickremesinghe was visibly uncomfortable during her speech.

Addressing Wickremesinghe, Kumaratunga said, “I just want to remind you of one thing. In 2015, we found out that the young son of a certain leader had hidden $1 billion in a bank in Dubai. You know about it, and we couldn’t bring it back.”

Wickremesinghe responded, “Let’s not go there…”

Kumaratunga continued, “We couldn’t bring it back because we didn’t have the laws. But we found it. Our CID went there and got the documents. I saw the bank statements with my own eyes. But we couldn’t file charges because the bank didn’t provide the original statements. There were many attempts, but it didn’t happen.”

Turning to Sirisena, she added, “Your government tried hard, but the hidden money was discovered, yet not recovered. Don’t forget, getting that money back is a complicated process.”

She also pointed out that even the Marcos family’s hidden billions in the Philippines were eventually recovered, reminding the audience that it is possible, though difficult.
