All schools in the Central Province will be closed from tomorrow (19) due to prevailing adverse weather conditions, provincial authorities announced yesterday.
The decision was taken following a discussion held on today (18) between Central Province Governor Professor Sarath Abeykoon and provincial education officials, in view of concerns over the safety of students and staff.
Central Province Education Secretary Madhupani Piyasena said that schools were scheduled to close for the Christmas holidays on 22 December, and that the closure from tomorrow will therefore bring forward the school holidays. He added that schools in the province will reopen on 29 December as originally scheduled after the Christmas vacation.
