C-Nor Foundation Chairman Resigns Amid Death Threats from MP

Dr. Dulan Hettiarachchi, Chairman of the C-Nor Foundation, has tendered his resignation to the President citing threats and intimidation from Minister of State Piyal Nishantha.

According to Dr. Hettiarachchi’s letter to the President, Minister Piyal Nishantha allegedly coerced him into unlawful actions, including soliciting bribes and issuing death threats. Dr. Hettiarachchi further detailed that the Minister had appointed numerous employees to the Foundation and demanded goods worth thousands of rupees for distribution among his constituents, under threat of dire consequences.

The resignation letter also revealed Dr. Hettiarachchi’s struggles, stating that he endured emotional distress due to the Minister’s actions, despite his efforts to turn the Foundation’s fortunes around. Under his tenure, significant achievements were made, including clearing a substantial bank overdraft, making the company profitable, and securing investments and development funds.

In response to the allegations, Minister Piyal Nishantha vehemently denied any wrongdoing, asserting his commitment to his ministerial responsibilities. He maintained that he had no issues with Dr. Hettiarachchi or the C-Nor Foundation, refusing to divulge further details to avoid causing harm.
